Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.69% in early trade. The country's budget will be tabled by Treasurer Jim Chalmers later in the day.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 started the day up 1.15%, while the broader Topix index gained 0.91%.
In South Korea, the Kospi index opened 0.61% higher and the small-cap Kosdaq gained 0.64%.
Futures for Hong Kong's Hang Seng index last traded at 23,609, indicating a weaker open compared with the HSI's close of 23,905.56.
U.S. futures fell slightly after all three major Wall Street indexes posted gains overnight.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 597.97 points, or 1.42%, to close at 42,583.32. The S&P 500 gained 1.76% to close at 5,767.57, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained 2.27% to close at 18,188.59.
